The uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in the Asia Cup resulted in an anxious period from mid-December to mid-January that ended when the ACC CEO Syed Ashraful Huq confirmed the side would play. When the team arrived in Dhaka, however, on February 22, there was hardly anyone talking about those three weeks, as the focus quickly shifted to Pakistan’s tournament opener against Sri Lanka in Fatullah.The PCB had never officially said the side wouldn’t travel to Bangladesh but given the political tension, particularly the diplomatic row between the two countries, there was always a sense that something might go wrong. So far since their arrival, though, Pakistan are happy with the security arrangements given to them by the BCB and, by extension, the government.The team manager Zakir Khan has said that the extra security has been assuring and they have felt comfortable so far. “It has been sorted out and we’ve been promised VIP security,” he said. “We’ve been here for a couple of days, and they have provided whatever we have asked for. The likes of Sharjeel Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, Bilawal Bhatti and Mohammad Talha are on their first tour to Bangladesh and have not even played club cricket here, unlike a few Pakistan cricketers.However, they all made an impression against Sri Lanka recently. Maqsood was the most impressive, batting at a 40-plus average in the five-match ODI series back in December. Sharjeel made just one half-century, but Misbah reckons that the batsman can go places.Anwar Ali and Talha were impressive with the ball, and the latter is all set to make his ODI debut in this tournament. These two bowlers would be vital in the absence of Mohammad Irfan who sustained an injury during a domestic game.Fawad Alam makes a comeback at the expense of Asad Shafiq while Ahmed Shehzad will look to continue his purple patch. Accompanying these youngsters are experienced heads such as Misbah, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul and Junaid Khan. This is possibly the most balanced side in the tournament, but with a less-experienced seam attack that will be led by the in-form Junaid.However, none of the other teams have had to deal with the sort of additional responsibility thrust upon Pakistan’s players, who will have to avoid all controversies regarding political and diplomatic tensions, and keep things as normal as possible.

وتابع: “أو أنهم بدأوا في ذلك بعد فوات الأوان على أرض الملعب بعد التأخر في النتيجة، لم يكونوا جيدين في الارتداد في النواحي الدفاعية ولم يطبقوا ما طلبته منهم في الهجوم”.

وأضاف مدرب مانشستر يونايتد: “لقد أبلغتهم بأن ما فعلوه غير مقبول على الإطلاق، يجب على كل فرد أن يتحمل المسئولية، نحن بحاجة إلى لاعبين يمكننا الاعتماد عليهم”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “كنا جيدين للغاية في بداية المباراة، لكن تشتت انتباه اللاعبين بدون سبب ولم يطبقوا ما نريد”.

واستمر: “لست معتادًا على هذا الأمر من الفريق، لأنهم يفعلون ما بوسعهم دائمًا، لأن هذا ما تتوقعه الجماهير وعلينا تحقيقه”.

وأتم: “علينا أن نواجه أننا في أول مباراتين لم نكن جيدين بما فيه الكفاية، لكننا فزنا بواحدة (أمام ولفرهامبتون في الجولة الأولى)”.

Mark Boucher, South Africa’s former wicketkeeper, has called on the ICC to think about “what’s important to the game and what isn’t” when they sanction players for breaching the code of conduct. Boucher was referencing the discrepancies in the sanctions handed out to Faf du Plessis and David Warner during the ongoing series.In ‘s television build-up to the third Test match in Cape Town, Boucher said the ICC should “get its ducks in a row,” when it comes to applying discipline.David Warner was fined 15% of his match fee for making what match referee Roshan Mahanama called “disrespectful,” comments which “publicly denigrated an opponent,” when he suggested to an Australian radio station that South Africa had achieved reverse swing in Port Elizabeth through dubious means.Contrastingly, Faf du Plessis had to hand over 50% of his match fee for a second clothing violation within the last 12 months. Du Plessis took to the field in Port Elizabeth with green shoelaces instead of the white ones which are stipulated as the acceptable gear for Test matches. In November 2013, du Plessis wore shoes with a red tongue instead of a white one.Both those are in contravention with clause 2.1.1 of the ICC’s code of conduct for players and player support personnel. Because they occurred within a 12-month period, the minimum fine of half the player’s match fee, was imposed. Boucher said he thought du Plessis’ offence was not in the same vein as Warner’s and he could not understand why the South African was so harshly punished.

Gupta: BCCI unwilling to play ball with Mudgal commission

The BCCI has objected to the Justice Mukul Mudgal commission being asked to follow up on their findings into allegations of betting and spot-fixing in the IPL. The BCCI, at a hearing on Tuesday, said it wanted the Supreme Court to form a new panel as it had found the Mudgal committee’s report “erroneous”. At the hearing on Tuesday, the BCCI counsel also asked the court to reinstate N Srinivasan to his office as BCCI president while the probe was being conducted.The Supreme Court on Tuesday, reserved its order about the panel to investigate the allegations against 13 “very important personalities” in cricket. It is however, expected to issue an interim order regarding the composition of the second IPL corruption probe panel within a few days.The next hearing of the case will only be in September, after the court-appointed panel has completed its investigation.At a previous hearing on April 22, the Supreme Court when presented with the BCCI’s selection of a three-member panel to look into the IPL corruption, had asked the Justice Mudgal committee to respond to the court’s invitation to resume its investigation. The Mudgal panel had agreed to continue the investigation and on Tuesday, its counsel Gopal Subramaniam handed over a note from the panel detailing the assistance it would require and said that it would complete its investigations within four months.The Mudgal panel also stated: “As this committee was appointed with the consent of the BCCI and the Cricket Association of Bihar, in the earlier order, the Committee requests that a similar consent may be obtained again.” It is possible that the formation of an entirely new panel to investigate the allegations would be considered impractical because it would increase the potential for the information in the sealed envelope being leaked.Mudgal commission seeks assistance for probe

The Justice Mukul Mudgal commission has stated the assistance it would need to continue with its probe on corruption in the IPL. The panel sought help of the following individuals:
– ML Sharma, former CBI special director
– A senior officer (“preferably not below the rank of assistant commissioner of police”) each from the Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai police, and
– A former India cricketer “of repute and integrity”.
It also requested:
– Further assistance from police authorities, the Sports Integrity Unit of CBI’s anti-corruption branch and other departments or agencies of the central and state governments “as required.”
– Full co-operation of the BCCI during the investigation, including directions to abide by instructions, if any, issued by the panel. The commission also stated that all people working in and assisting the investigation, should “exercise their duties with utmost confidentiality” and act as officers of the court.

The request by Srinivasan’s counsel that he be reinstated as BCCI president was not agreed to by the court. The counsel had argued that the sealed envelope only contained an allegation against Srinivasan that he had failed to act on a complaint made against an individual. To which Justice A K Patnaik said, “The contents of the sealed cover is not what you think it is.” This has left Srinivasan’s BCCI position in limbo as long as there an investigation on. Srinivasan had formally been removed from all BCCI duties from April 16 onward, Justice Patnaik saying that Srinivasan, “could not come back as BCCI president as long as the probe is on.”The court did not however hear the matter of Srinivasan continuing in the ICC, where he hopes to take over as its first chairman in June this year. According to Nalini Chidambaram, counsel for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the fact that the matter did not come in for a hearing was, “not really a setback. We only hope that the BCCI members will act fairly when a man is not fit to be BCCI president because under the ICC rules it is the BCCI who have to nominate their representative. So we only hope that good judgement will prevail on the BCCI members.”The case dates back to June 2013, when the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) secretary Aditya Verma raised charges of a conflict of interest in the BCCI’s original two-member inquiry panel for the IPL corruption issue. A Bombay High Court ruling later termed the probe panel “illegal”. The BCCI and the CAB filed petitions in the Supreme Court against this order, with the CAB contending that the Bombay High Court could have suggested a fresh mechanism to look into the corruption allegations.The Supreme Court then appointed a three-member committee, headed by former High Court judge Mukul Mudgal and comprising additional solicitor general L Nageswara Rao and Nilay Dutta to conduct an independent inquiry into the allegations of corruption against Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, India Cements, and Rajasthan Royals team owner Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Ltd, as well as with the larger mandate of allegations around betting and spot-fixing in IPL matches and the involvement of players.

وكتب ميدو عبر حسابه الرسمي بموقع “تويتر”: “الموسم المحلي راجع تاني شوية أشخاص اتغيروا لكن نفس منهج الغباء متغيرش منه حاجه شايف إن في محاولة لتذكير الجماهير بمنهج الغباء.. اوعوا تنسوا يالا انت وهو ان احنا فشلة وأغبياء افتكر كويس أنت بتتعامل مع مين!!”.

وأضاف: “عندي اقتناع تام إن في تعمد إن الكورة في مصر تفضل منتج رخيص لسبب ما أنا مش عارفه!! لا يمكن يكون اللي بيحصل ده مش متعمد!!”.

وأردف: “الموسم هيبدأ من غير أي تغيير في لائحة الانظباط والأخلاق والحاج قاعد على المكنة بيفصل أسابيع الدوري الجديد، والمنتخب بقى بيشحت لاعيبته والإعلام بقى بيبرر للكلام ده عادي!! دي بقى مرحلة جديدة من البجاحة!!”.

واستكمل: “أنا كنت فاكر ان ليڤيل إن منتخب مصر يبقى بيشحت لاعيبته جاي بعد ٥٠ سنة وكان عندي أمل كبير إن، إن شاء الله هموت قبل العمر ده لكن إحنا اتطورنا بسرعة جدًا.. الحمد لله إحنا جامدين جدًا”.

واستطرد: “غير مقبول لا من الزمالك ولا من الأهلي ولا حتى مارسيليا إنه يساوم المنتخب بلاعيبته وأي حد يطلع في الإعلام يقول غير كده يبقى ضلالي.. الأولوية لمنتخب مصر.. مصر فوق الجميع”.
