West Ham XI vs Genk - team, injury news

West Ham United can all but confirm their place in the Europa League knockout stages with a win over Genk this evening, in what will be David Moyes’ 1,000 game in management.

Fresh off the back of leading the Irons to their record points and win total in the Premier League last season, the Scotsman has his side unbeaten in Europe with a 100% record in Group H.

The Hammers could become the first English team to win their opening four games in the competition without conceding a goal, so it could be quite the landmark occasion over in Belgium tonight.

But with a huge clash against Liverpool on Sunday, the 58-year-old has plenty of decisions to make in terms of team selection.

Here’s the lineup he could run with against the Jupiler Pro League outfit…

After dispatching Aston Villa with ease last weekend, Moyes could afford to rotate the bulk of his starting XI and that is what he’s expected to do. There could be as many as nine changes with only vice-captain Declan Rice and winger Jarrod Bowen remaining.

It means Alphonse Areola resumes duties between the sticks as he is seemingly West Ham’s ‘cup ‘keeper’, so veteran Lukasz Fabianski is rested.

The entire back four is altered, too.

Craig Dawson and Issa Diop have formed a solid partnership in the tournament so far and are likely to return, handing a breather to both Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna, whilst Vladimir Coufal is in line for his first start since injury.

The 29-year-old replaces the impressive Ben Johnson on the right, whilst Arthur Masuaku starts over Aaron Cresswell on the other flank.

Rarely-seen summer signing Alex Kral could earn some minutes from the off as he partners Rice in the middle. The 23-year-old Czech Republic international has played only 90 minutes since arriving in east London.

Further afield, it would be a surprise to see Michail Antonio named in the starting lineup, so Andriy Yarmolenko is trusted to lead the line again as Moyes lacks senior options in the centre-forward role.

Meanwhile, Manuel Lanzini and fellow summer arrival Nikola Vlasic join Bowen behind the striker, meaning Said Benrahma is axed after his sub-par showing at Villa Park, with Pablo Fornals also rested.

AND in other news, Moyes must unleash West Ham’s £18m-rated “machine” tonight, he could terrorise Genk…

Collingwood spurred by Adelaide debacle

For Paul Collingwood, one word – “Adelaide” – is all that will be required to ensure that his competitive juices are fully flowing come Wednesday morning

On the eve of an Ashes series, extra motivation is not something that either side will lack, but for Paul Collingwood, one word – “Adelaide” – is all that will be required to ensure that his competitive juices are fully flowing come Wednesday morning. For Collingwood, the second Test of England’s disastrous campaign in 2006-07 truly was the best of times, and the worst of times. On the second day of the match he completed the double-century that seemed destined to lead England’s fightback from their 277-run drubbing in the first Test at Brisbane; by the final afternoon, however, he was clinging to the wreckage of England’s second innings, 22 not out from 119 balls, as Shane Warne led the charge towards Australia’s incredible six-wicket victory. After that astonishing turnaround, of which there had been no prospect until Andrew Strauss’s dismissal midway through the morning session of the final day, there was no holding Australia back. They swarmed to victory in the remaining three Tests to complete their first Ashes whitewash since 1920-21, and claim absolute vengeance for their thrilling defeat in England in 2005. For better or worse, Collingwood has been clinging to the events of that Test ever since.”I’ll be honest with you, it still hurts me and hurts the team talking about Adelaide,” he told Cricinfo. “We got ourselves into a great position to win or draw the game, and the whole Ashes series could have turned out a lot differently if that had happened. Looking back, it really took the guts out of us as a team – and certainly as an individual, it took the guts out of me – because we had been in such a great position.”It’s amazing how high you can get in terms of your emotions, scoring a double hundred as an individual, and then how quickly a game can turn, and how low you can actually get within such a short space of time,” he said. “As a cricketer, I went from as high as I’ve ever been, to as low as I’ve ever been, in the space of a day. That’s the amazing thing about cricket. You’ve got to be so mentally strong as a cricketer to go through the emotional range in the space of days.”No player is better placed than Collingwood to pass on the lessons that England were taught that day, not even Kevin Pietersen, who also scored a century in that Test, but whose success against all opponents and in all forms of the game somehow set him apart from his colleagues. As Collingwood himself put it: “For most of my career, I’ve always learned from adversity rather than success.”Nearly three years on, however, and there is plenty that is different about the two line-ups, particularly Australia’s, which has been stripped of many of the men who made that Adelaide turnaround possible – most notably Warne, but also Glenn McGrath and now Brett Lee as well.”They were a team who pounced on an opportunity, and that hurt a lot,” Collingwood said. “Last time they had a lot of experience and skill, and they knew about taking opportunities, which we were slow in doing ourselves. They gradually wore us down, but if you give it a good go from ball one, and if you have that aggressive attitude against Australia, you’ll do pretty well.”I guess it’s about going out there and believing in yourself,” he said. “They are a very good side so you’ve got to get your technique in place, but the mental side of playing against Australia is the crucial thing, and that’s going to be new for a lot of the players in both sides. You’ve got to adapt your game and strategies to overcome everything that goes with the Ashes – the media hype, the atmosphere in the grounds. It’s completely different.”Collingwood happens to believe that the attitude within the England team is completely different as well, and attributes that to the lessons learned in the midst of humiliation. “Coming off the pitch last time in Australia, I had conversations with the boys, and we talked about what we were going to do to make sure that [experience] doesn’t happen again. It’s amazing how it hits you hard as sportsmen.”There were certainly a few nerves going into that [series] but there were also a few grey areas in the team,” he said. “This time we are more confident in what we are about, and what we’re doing, and that’s crucial. Mentally it’s a belief thing. It’s not about being overconfident or arrogant, but about going at them – not in a verbal sense, but in body language.”Given the history of Anglo-Australian relations, verbal jousting will undoubtedly play a major part in the series, although Collingwood – who toughened up his game in Aussie grade cricket in the mid-1990s, and was at the forefront of England’s aggressive approach in 2005, particularly in an incident involving Simon Jones and Matthew Hayden at Edgbaston – questioned whether any banter that takes place on the field can really be bracketed as “sledging”.”It’s a bit of a silly word, an overused term” he said. “If it’s a chat, or a joke, is that sledging? Sometimes situations come around when you need to back each other up as a team, like with Hayden last time around, but we’re not going to go looking for it. With the Aussies, they sometimes sniff a moment to get right on top, but sometimes – like at Adelaide – they were like any other team that you are on top of, and went very quiet.”They are very good at it though,” he said. “I played a lot of cricket out there in 1996 as a youngster, and it’s in their culture. They come hard at you, with people coming up to you who don’t like Pommies, simple as that. But people react in different ways. Mentally some people take it personally and let it affect their techniques, some people don’t even listen to it. We have strong characters who can stand up to it.”Whatever transpires in the coming months, Collingwood could hardly be more primed for the challenge. “I’ve got no need for extra motivation,” he said. “From a very early age, all I wanted to do is win the Ashes, and what happened last time fuels me even more to win, no matter who is in the team.”It can only happen against Australia, because it’s the ultimate. Without putting down the likes of South Africa and West Indies, you just don’t get all the emotion against any other side. When you do well against Australia, it’s such a buzz because you know you’re playing against the best in the world.”

Braz defende folgas do Santos e minimiza jejum: 'Estamos criando'

-Criamos bastante no último jogo. Temos que trabalhar, não pode desanimar. Nosso time tem qualidade e criando.

No Brasileirão, o Peixe é o segundo time que menos finaliza, atrás apenas do Avaí.

Dyson rallies West Indies for ODI series

Though the Test squad was made up of replacement players – following strike action by the more reputed names – John Dyson said he was not disappointed with the way they performed

Cricinfo staff23-Jul-2009

John Dyson: “This is a totally different game now.”•Associated Press

West Indies coach John Dyson has said that despite his team losing the Test Series against Bangladesh, he expects competitive performances in the three-match ODI series. “This is a totally different game now,” Dyson said. “We’re playing 50-over cricket, not five-day cricket. The two Test matches were closely fought, it wasn’t a case where we were thrashed in either of the matches. We could have won both so I don’t think there’s much in it.”Though the Test squad was made up of replacement players – following strike action by the more reputed names – Dyson said he was not disappointed with the way they performed. “For guys who had little experience in international cricket to come forward like that and play as well as they did, I think they did pretty well,” Dyson said. “They’ve played some good cricket so far, unfortunately we weren’t able to get across the line and win the Tests.”The first two ODIs will be played in Dominica on Sunday and Tuesday, and Dyson hoped the pitches would nullify the Bangladesh spinners and aid the West Indian pacemen. “I’m looking forward to the one-dayers. What I’d like to see is a hard, pacy, bouncy wicket,” Dyson said.Given the statistics from the two Test matches in St Vincent and Grenada, the Bangladeshi spinners – led by captain Shakib Al Hasan – have been dominant. They took 33 of the 40 wickets with Shakib and Mahmudullah, both picking five-wicket hauls. The duo along, with Enamul Haque jnr, who featured in the second Test, worked over the West Indies batsmen with relative ease.Contrastingly, fast bowlers Kemar Roach and Darren Sammy were the standout performers for the hosts. Roach, who debuted in the first Test, was the highest wicket-taker for West Indies with 13. He bowled with disconcerting pace and bagged an impressive career best 6 for 48 in the first innings in Grenada.Sammy also had impressive returns by picking up back-to-back five wicket hauls. In the first match, Sammy took 5 for 70 in the Bangladesh second innings, and followed it up with identical figures in Grenada. It is no surprise, therefore, that Dyson is keen on a pitch which will offer some assistance to the pacers with the West Indies squad comprising Roach, Sammy, David Bernard, Nelon Pascal and Gavin Tonge.

Conte switch can unlock Ndombele at Spurs

Antonio Conte is expected to tinker his tactical system at Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks and it could be hugely beneficial to Tanguy Ndombele.

The Italian has barely been in the job a week but according to football.london reporter Alasdair Gold, we could see a shift to a 3-4-1-2 in a bid to solve their attacking woes.

“There’s an expectation within the club that the starting XI and formation will change over the coming weeks,” he revealed to supporters.

“I think the width from the wing-backs negates the need for wingers up front as well, so I think we’ll see a shift to a 3-4-1-2 and yes I reckon two or three faces in the team will be different within a month’s time.”

So far under the 52-year-old, the Lilywhites are unbeaten, having narrowly defeated Vitesse 3-2 in the Europa Conference League before Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Everton.

What is most alarming, however, is that Spurs’ creative problems are continuing. The side has not registered a shot on target in nearly four hours, whilst their last league goal came over five hours ago, as per The Athletic.

Similarly, the north Londoners rank last for average shots per game (10.1), which is worse than the three teams occupying a place in the bottom three, including managerless Norwich City (10.3), via WhoScored.

To get the best out of Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, Conte is perhaps going to look to deploy an attacking midfielder in the middle, rather than having two wide men on top of both wing-backs.

This opens the door for Spurs’ divisive club-record signing to finally live up to expectations. The last two years have been mixed, to say the least.

Across 86 appearances, the £34m-rated dynamo has only provided ten goals and eight assists, averaging a direct contribution once every 272 minutes, via Transfermarkt, which isn’t good enough but sometimes, albeit fairly rarely, we have seen glimpses of why chairman Daniel Levy splashed £55m on him.

“In the right environment he could become one of the best midfielders in the world,” once claimed French journalist Julien Laurens to the BBC, whilst ex-goalkeeper Joe Hart dubbed him “unplayable” and a “world-beater” to BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand last season.

Ndombele has played several different midfield roles since arriving in the summer of 2019 but it is the advanced position where he has reaped the best rewards, averaging a contribution every 3.5 games, over 4.2 games when deployed deeper, as per Transfermarkt.

Therefore, this massive call from Conte to revert to a system that utilises a no.10 should see the French flop become a key and influential player for the club.

If it doesn’t, then the writing may well be on the wall but only time will tell.

O time encaixou.

– Elias e Léo Moura me buscaram no vestiário para comemorar o título no gramado.

REINVENÇÃO DO TIME TITULAR
do time.

Antigo time ideal: Vanderlei; Victor Ferraz, Lucas Veríssimo, David Braz e Jean Mota; Thiago Maia, Renato e Lucas Lima; Vitor Bueno, Bruno Henrique e Ricardo Oliveira.

Atual time ideal: Vanderlei; Victor Ferraz, Lucas Veríssimo, David Braz e Zeca; Renato, Alison e Lucas Lima; Copete (Vitor Bueno), Bruno Henrique e Ricardo Oliveira.

INVENCIBILIDADE
