It's no secret this season that Sunderland have struggled to find a potent striker to lead the line, never being able to fill the huge void left behind by Ross Stewart exiting for Southampton.

Stewart hasn't been blessed with the best luck since moving to St. Mary's however, with injury issues galore only seeing him make two appearances for the Saints this campaign, but the wasteful Black Cats have never replaced their former lethal Scotsman all the same.

A conveyer belt of failed attackers in Nazariy Rusyn, Mason Burstow and more have all struggled to become the star centre-forward Sunderland have craved this dismal Championship season, with a new striker a must on the Black Cats shopping list this summer.

Sunderland will hope they don't fall victim to a similar transfer blunder like this one back in 2015, with the Wearside outfit gaining what they thought was a prolific forward for £5m only for him to go all goal-shy playing at the Stadium of Light.

Danny Graham's transfer to Sunderland

Sunderland must have thought they'd hit the jackpot when Danny Graham was unveiled as a major signing mid-way through the 2012/13 Premier League season, having been deadly for his ex-employers in Swansea City before moving on.

12 goals from 36 games the campaign before this deal was finalised would have caught the eye of the Black Cats, alongside Graham's past goalscoring heroics at Watford before his spell with the Swans which saw him score 41 goals from 98 Hornets games.

Enshrined in Swans folklore for his dramatic winner against Arsenal during his final full season in Wales too, Graham would unfortunately flop in his new surroundings after once being thought of as an effective goal-machine elsewhere.

Graham would only line up for Sunderland 13 times during the second half of his first season, failing to hit the ground running with zero goals for his efforts.

Loaned out to Hull City, Middlesbrough and Wolverhampton Wanderers, it wouldn't be until the 2014/15 campaign that Graham would finally break his duck for the Wearside outfit in a deal that is now seen as a colossal blunder.

The 6 foot dud would only ever score one more strike for Sunderland to take his goals total to a pitiful two from 59 games, even when returning to the Black Cats in a random loan spell during the 2020/21 season when the side had fallen all the way down to League One.

Graham's wage costs during his initial wretched stint would also have hurt Sunderland alongside his lack of clinical finishing, earning £12.5k-per-week more than what Daniel Ballard does currently, according to Capology.

The former Swansea man would rake in a high £27.5k-per-week wage for the Black Cats during their Premier League days ten years ago, which would make him the highest earner by over £10k-per-week now in the current Sunderland camp.

Graham would also find himself earning nearly double that of dependable centre-back figure Ballard back in 2013, who is now being touted for a move away from Sunderland after a poor collective second-tier season just gone still saw the ex-Arsenal man shine.

Only missing three games all season long in the Championship, an impressive feat considering the chopping and changing of managers on Wearside, Ballard could make Sunderland a healthy profit this summer if sold on all whilst earning significantly less than what Graham pocketed.

Graham will just be thankful that this disappointing patch of his career didn't upset his flow of goals moving onto Blackburn Rovers right after Sunderland, bagging 57 strikes whilst lining up alongside ex-Riversiders and current Black Cats midfielder Bradley Dack as a teammate.

Nas imagens que viralizaram no começo da manhã desta segunda-feira, Jô deixa um estabelecimento acompanhado de uma mulher, vai até outro local, de onde parece ter pegado uma camisa do Timão, e leva a moça até um carro. Depois do automóvel deixar o posto de gasolina, o jogador retorna ao local de início, onde seria a festa clandestina. Tudo isso ocorreu por volta das 5h.

No começo desta tarde, por meio de vídeo enviado pela sua assessoria de imprensa, Jô esclareceu a situação e explicou que estava ali para abastecer o carro e dar uma camisa a um amigo que havia pedido, e quem foi buscar o presente foi uma amiga. Além disso, nesta manhã, horário em que foi marcada a reapresentação do grupo, ele disse ter cumprido com seus compromissos.

Aqui quem esta falando é o Jô, estou passando para esclarecer uma situação que aconteceu comigo ontem, deixar bem claro que eu sai do clube aqui, depois que cheguei do rio de janeiro, passei no posto de gasolina, abasteci meu carro, entreguei a camisa para um amigo meu que tinha me pedido, a amiga dele foi buscar, entreguei para ela e fui para casa.

então está tudo bem tranquilo, hoje pela manhã vim aqui, fiz meu compromisso, meu regenerativo, estou voltando para casa novamente e a vida segue. Só quero deixar bem claro, muita gente falando um monte de coisa, a gente fica muito triste com isso, mas a verdade está aí. Agradeço por tudo, Deus abençoe a todos. Vai, Corinthians! Quarta-feira estamos aí, vamos embora!”

Off the pitch, it emerged over the weekend that famous Hollywood actor Will Ferrell is buying a minority stake in Leeds, something which could help the Whites land another lucrative documentary series. Ferrell is set to join Russell Crowe in part-owning Leeds, as well as golfing stars like Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.

In regards to transfer rumours, there could be a number of departures in Yorkshire over the coming weeks, with Luke Ayling confirming he’s probably played his last game for the club as he eyes a permanent transfer to Middlesbrough. Now, another player out on loan is looking likely to leave for good.

Lewis Bate expected to leave Leeds

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue, midfielder Lewis Bate is expected to leave Leeds on a permanent transfer this summer, three years after arriving from Chelsea. The 21-year-old has been on loan in League Two with MK Dons but suffered a huge playoff setback against Crawley Town, losing the first leg 3-0.

Bate has been a regular for MK Dons since the New Year, playing alongside former Whites forward Max Dean. It isn’t the midfielder’s first taste of football out on loan, though, with Bate spending last season with Oxford United. He impressed former boss Karl Robinson, who waxed lyrical over the player, calling him a “magician”.

"He’s one of the best I’ve worked with, and I mean that. The problem is we’ve got him so young, we’ll be watching him in three or four years’ time running games at the top level – I’m sure of that. The kid’s a magician. He needs goals and assists, that becomes the reason you play in the central area of the football pitch."

Meanwhile, Bate, who has made five senior appearances for the Whites, also came in for praise from Marcelo Bielsa during his time with Leeds, with the Argentine saying: “He’s a player who performs better every time in the games he’s a part of. He’s a player that is constantly managing the ball and he doesn’t lose it very often. And he’s got a good sense of a pass, he can thread it through the needle.”

It looks as if Bate’s days on the books with Leeds are numbered, though, with his contract in Yorkshire set to expire at the end of June.

On Sunday afternoon, Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur side ended their Premier League campaign with an emphatic win over Sheffield United.

While there have certainly been some speed bumps along the way, the Australian's first season in England has largely been positive.

However, the last 11 games of the season saw the club lose six, conceding 22 goals and scoring just 15 in the process, suggesting that, alongside the defence, the attack needs revamping heading into the summer, and based on recent reports, the latest player touted for a move to N17 could be the perfect option to replace Son Heung-min up top.

According to a recent report from a Spanish publication, Tottenham are now interested in RB Leipzig's talented striker Benjamin Šeško ahead of the summer window and could even snatch him from under the noses of fierce rivals Arsenal.

Moreover, the report has also named Chelsea as an interested party, meaning all three London clubs could be set to do battle for the 20-year-old's signature.

The report does not mention a price, but Sky Sports Germany journalist Philipp Hinze reported over the weekend that the Bundesliga side have set the forward's release clause at €65m for the summer, which converts to around £56m.

It wouldn't be a cheap deal to get done, but it might be worth it to bring in an out-and-out goalscorer into the team to replace Son upfront, especially if it means denying Arsenal and Chelsea the same opportunity.

How Šeško compares to Son

So, if Postecoglou were to get his hands on Šeško this summer, he would have to play him up top to get the best out of him, as he has only ever started one game in another position.

Therefore, the two men he'd be up against for a spot in the starting lineup would likely be Son and Richarlison, and when it comes to pure goalscoring, he has them both beat.

So far this season, the Slovenian has scored 18 goals for Leipzig, while the South Korean has 17 and the Brazilian 12, so while there is undoubtedly some more competition to be had with the former Bayer Leverkusen ace, the former Everton star is comfortably beaten.

So, how do the pair stack up when comparing their striker-relevant underlying metrics? Perhaps unsurprisingly, given his familiarity with the role, the former Salzburg "machine," as talent scout Jacek Kulig described him, comes out comfortably ahead.

For example, he produces a higher non-penalty expected goals figure, scores more non-penalty goals, takes more shots and shots on target, scores from more of his shots and shots on target, and wins considerably more aerial duels, all per 90.

Now, while the "prolific" youngster, as dubbed by Kulig, would be an upgrade on the Lilywhites' captain as a striker, that doesn't mean Ange should just drop the talented attacker altogether.

In just 11 starts out wide this season, the Chuncheon-born star scored three goals and provided four assists, averaging a healthy return of a goal involvement every 1.5 games for the North Londoners.

Ultimately, Spurs are still some ways off the top teams in the country, and while Son is an incredible player, signing Šeško to come in as an upgrade at number nine would be a brilliant idea, and it would also rob Arsenal of one of their top targets at the same time.

Cricket team caught in crossfire of dispute between a private firm and the Pakistan government

The PCB has played down reports that a company based in the Isle of Man may seize assets owned by the Pakistan team currently in the UK, as part of an old legal dispute between the firm and the Pakistan government. A report in the Pakistani daily the quoted a letter from Broadsheet LLC to the Pakistan government in which it said it would “seize the assets of the Pakistani cricket team” because of longstanding dues owed to it by the government.The PCB has been in touch with the Pakistan Embassy in the UK and is believed to have been satisfied that there is little prospect of this actually happening. That belief lies in the legal opinion that the Pakistan team is representative of the Pakistan Cricket Board, an autonomous body, and not of the Pakistan state or government, and so is not a party to the case or liable for the damages. In the letter, Broadsheet says that the Pakistan team is “by the very nature, an asset of the defendant and that monies due to the team and assets of the team are assets of the defendant to the litigation”.The PCB, however, said the ordinance under which it was established makes it clear it is autonomous.”The PCB has no nexus whatsoever with the arbitration and/or recovery proceedings between Broadsheet LLC and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan & National Accountability Bureau of Pakistan,” the PCB said.”Moreover, the PCB stands established under the Sports (Development and Control) Ordinance 1962 as a body corporate having perpetual succession with exclusive authority for the regulation, administration, management and promotion of the game of cricket in Pakistan. The PCB operates through its Constitution as an autonomous entity.”The PCB operates and functions independently from the Government, generates its own revenues and receives no grants, funds or monies from either the Federal or Provincial Governments, or the Public Exchequer.”The legal dispute dates back to the early 2000s, when Broadsheet was hired by General Pervez Musharraf, who was the head of state of Pakistan then, to trace out hidden assets of Pakistan nationals in foreign countries. Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) signed an agreement with Broadsheet, which was eventually terminated in 2003. The termination led to a legal dispute, one resolved in 2018, when an international arbitration court in London ruled in favour of Broadsheet, and established that the NAB was liable to pay damages. It is this payment that remains outstanding.The letter quoted in the was written by Broadsheet to Allen & Overy, the firm that represented the Pakistan government and the NAB in the case, and said that Broadsheet was owed “more than USD 33 million” after it won the arbitration.ESPNcricinfo reached out to NAB for comment, but the body has not confirmed or denied any threat to the cricket team’s equipment being seized. The Pakistan team will play three Tests and three T20Is against England, with the first Test scheduled to start on August 5 in Manchester. The final T20I will take place on September 1.
