Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman and head coach Tony Mowbray have built up a squad that is full of talented young prospects on Wearside.
The Black Cats have placed a clear focus on bringing in players who have the potential to develop and increase in value over the last few years.
They have tried to snap up young talents with upside in the hope that they will be able to improve under the manager and coaching staff's work on the training pitch and in matches in order to sell them on for a significant profit further down the line.
This was on full display over the summer transfer window as the club sold Ross Stewart to Championship rivals Southampton for a reported £12m package, which includes £8m up front.

They had signed him from Scottish side Ross County for a reported fee of £300k in January of 2021 and this means that his value soared by a whopping 3,900% in less than three years at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland will now be looking at their current crop of players to see who the next major sale could be and one player who is quickly moving up on the list is central midfielder Pierre Ekwah.
How much was Ekwah worth at West Ham?
The French prospect arrived from West Ham United during the January transfer window and FootballTransfers placed an Expected Transfer Value (xTV) of €65k (£52k) on his head at the time of the move.
Ekwah, who had joined the Hammers from Chelsea in 2021, caught the eye with his performances for the Premier League side at youth level and convinced the Black Cats that he was ready to make the step up to first-team level.
The midfield maestro racked up 39 appearances for West Ham's U21 team throughout his time at the London Stadium and was able to showcase his ability in and out of possession.

He produced nine goals and three assists in those matches and plundered an impressive five goals in 11 Premier League 2 outings during the first half of the 2022/23 campaign before his move to the Stadium of Light.
This showed that the central midfielder had the potential to offer an attacking threat from a midfield position as he has a knack for bursting forward to chip in with goal contributions at the top end of the pitch.
Ekwah also displayed his quality against senior opposition in three EFL Trophy appearances for West Ham in the first half of last season.
He averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.00 across three matches in the competition and contributed with two tackles and interceptions and two key passes per game, to go along with a duel success rate of 54%.
This showed, albeit in a small sample size, that the French talent could hold his own, physically, against professional players, and had the ability to provide quality on the ball by creating chances for his teammates.
How many appearances has Ekwah made for Sunderland?
The 21-year-old dynamo has made 25 first-team appearances for Sunderland since he made the move from West Ham earlier this year and has established himself as a regular for Mowbray as it stands.
However, it has not been an easy ride for the French talent throughout the year as he did not hit the ground running during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign.

It was his first experience of regular league football and Ekwah's performances lacked consistency. He averaged an unimpressive Sofascore rating of 6.57 across 14 Championship matches, five of which came as starts.
22 of his teammates averaged higher Sofascore ratings throughout the season and this suggests that he was considerably far away from being one of Mowbray's best performers last term.
However, the Sunderland head coach placed his faith in Ekwah at the start of the 2023/24 campaign and it is currently paying off for the former Blackburn boss.
The France U20 international, who was hailed as "vital" to the side by journalist Josh Bunting, has averaged a terrific Sofascore rating of 7.27 across six starts in the Championship, which is the fifth-best score within the squad.
This shows that he has gone from being one of the least impressive performers on Wearside to the point where the talented Frenchman is now one of the leading lights for the Black Cats as it stands.
Ekwah, who scored two goals in the 5-0 win over Southampton earlier this month, has caught the eye with his reliable passing and strong defensive play. He has completed 90% of his attempted passes and made three tackles and interceptions per game, as per Sofascore, which is the second-most of any player within the squad.
How much is Ekwah worth now?
At the time of writing (28/09/2023), FootballTransfers has the central midfielder's xTV at €3.4m (£2.9m) and this shows that his market value has rocketed up over the course of the year.
His xTV has increased by a staggering 5,032% from the initial €65k (£56.5k) that he was valued at when Sunderland swooped to sign him from West Ham at the start of the year.
Therefore, Mowbray has struck gold with the impressive youngster as he has developed into an impressive Championship midfield option for the head coach and his market value has reflected that.
The Black Cats boss has been able to turn Ekwah from an unproven U21 performer for the Hammers into a key cog in his first-team set-up at the Stadium of Light in less than a year, which is a credit to his coaching and management skills alongside the player's adaptability and willingness to learn.
Hopefully, he can continue to go from strength to strength and increase his xTV even further over the coming months and years. If his performances continue to catch the eye in the Championship then he could end up being the next Stewart to rake in a huge profit for the club if he attracts attention from elsewhere.
However, Sunderland may prefer him to be part of a promotion-winning side so that they can afford to keep hold of their top talents and then progress to the next level in the Premier League.

Sem divisão nacional e na Série B do Campeonato Cearense desde 2017,o Verdão do Cariri também vive grave crise financeira. E em meio a esse cenário caótico, o Icasa vê uma luz no fim do túnel: um processo milionário contra a CBF, que deve render cerca de R$ 18 milhõesaos cofres do clube.

O motivo? Um erro no sistema de registro de atletas da CBF autorizou o Figueirense a escalar o volante Luan Nidezielski de forma irregular na Série B de 2013. No fim do campeonato, o clube catarinense terminou em 4º lugar, com um ponto a mais que o Icasa, 5º colocado. No início de 2014, o Verdão do Cariri entrou com uma liminar no STJD para a perda de pontos do Figueirense, que garantiria o acesso do clube cearense à Série A do Brasileirão.
No entanto, o STJD considerou a infração prescrita e arquivou o caso.Em entrevista ao LANCE!, o advogado especialista em direito desportivo Victor Amado explicou que esse procedimento ocorreu porque a denúncia por parte do Icasa foi feita fora do prazo de 30 dias previsto no Código Brasileiro de Justiça Desportiva.
– De acordo com o Artigo 165, a informação tem que ser colhida no STJD no prazo de 30 dias. Como a notícia chegou ao fim do campeonato, transcorreu-se esse prazo, não havendo mais possibilidade de a procuradoria colocar a infração cometida pelo Figueirense para ser julgada no tribunal do STJD.
Dessa forma, gerou-se o direito de o Icasa entrar na vara cível para ser ressarcido pelo erro confesso da CBF. Em agosto de 2014, o clube recorreu à Justiça Comum, cobrando R$ 33 milhões em indenização da entidade, com a prerrogativa da perda de uma chance.
-A perda de chance do Icasa é muito factível porque há um regulamento que ampara em casos de escalações irregulares e há uma confissão de equívoco da CBF. Essa confissão é uma prova robusta que não deixa dúvidas que o Icasa não está envolvido nesse erro. Ele é exclusivo da CBF e isso impediu o clube de participar da Série A – concluiu o advogado Victor Amado.
No capítulo mais recente da história, o Icasa venceu a CBF na 2ª instância da 6ª Câmara Cível do Tribunal de Justiça do Rio de Janeiro, no último dia 30 de setembro. Assim, a entidade foi condenada a pagar ao clube um valor de aproximadamente R$ 18 milhões, entre danos materiais e morais.A CBF ainda pode recorrer ao Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ),mas procurada pela reportagem, a assessoria da confederação não se posicionou sobre o caso.
Em conversa aoLANCE!, o presidente do Icasa, França Bezerra, considerou esse montante de R$ 18 milhões importante para a sobrevivência do clube, mas insuficiente em relação ao prejuízo de não ter participado da Série A em 2014. Além disso, o mandatário lembrou que não foi só o clube, mas toda a região do Cariri foi afetada com o erro da CBF.
-Esse valor é insignificante comparado ao prejuízo causado ao Icasa. Você vê aí quanto um clube que participa da Série A recebe por ano da CBF. Fora os patrocinadores que a gente perdeu, contrato de TV e bilheteria. Se tivéssemos subido aquele ano, seria um resgate muito importante para o Icasa. Isso tirou o sonho de muita gente e impactou a agremiação nos anos seguintes.
-Imagina como seria importante participar da Série A não só para o clube, mas para toda a nossa região, que ia se beneficiar com a movimentação da economia. Restaurantes, bares, hotéis, transporte aéreo, rodoviário. O prejuízo foi regional, para toda a sociedade de Juazeiro do Norte – concluiu França.
RECEITA ZERO E DÍVIDAS “IMPAGÁVEIS”
De fato, a partir desse episódio tudo deu errado para o Icasa e o clube sofreu uma série de rebaixamentos. Após ser rebaixado na Série B de 2014, o Verdão do Cariri disputou a Série C em 2015, a Série D em 2016 e ficou sem divisão nacional no ano seguinte. Também em 2016, o clube foi rebaixado da elite do futebol cearense e, desde então, disputa a segunda divisão estadual.
Além do mau desempenho em campo, uma grave crise financeira põe em risco o futuro do Icasa. Segundo França Bezerra, ele assumiu a presidência com “dívidas impagáveis”, uma vez que o clube não tem receita proveniente da disputa do Campeonato Cearense e, a partir desse ano, nem da bilheteria.

A meta de França Bezerra para os próximos anos é clara: fazer um trabalho de sustentabilidade e garantir o renascimento do Icasa. Dentro dessa operação, o valor a ser recebido do processo contra a CBF torna-se de extrema importância e é aguardado com paciência pela diretoria do Verdão do Cariri.

After Arsenal well and truly demolished PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday evening it looked as though the Gunners were back in the silky groove that had seen them dominate so much last season.
Indeed, that looked true during the opening half an hour of the north London derby on Sunday afternoon too.
Mikel Arteta's men came flying at Spurs who were forced to play through a rampant pressing unit. To their credit, Ange Postecoglou's men did well to navigate proceedings in that regard.
It wasn't enough to prevent them from going a goal down, however, with Bukayo Saka finding the net via wicket deflection off Cristian Romero.
That went down as an own goal before Saka would score in his own right from the penalty spot in the second half. That, however, wasn't enough for a win as Heung-min Son scored twice to ensure proceedings ended 2-2.
Arsenal were far from their free-flowing best. Skipper Martin Odegaard, fresh from a majestic performance in the Champions League a few days ago only recorded 18 passes at a woeful 64% success rate, while Jorginho, a half-time substitute for the injured Declan Rice, was robbed of possession in shambolic circumstances by James Maddison for Tottenham's second.
That said, the usually tireless Eddie Nketiah was perhaps one of the biggest party poopers on Sunday.
How did Nketiah play against Spurs?
The young striker has been an astute deputy for Gabriel Jesus throughout 2023.
The Brazilian sustained an injury at the World Cup last winter, a problem that ultimately saw him miss a few months. At the time, it was a worry for the Gunners, but upstepped Nketiah who scored against West Ham and Brighton immediately after the break before bagging twice, including a late winner against Manchester United in late January.
He started the new campaign vibrantly too, netting versus Nottingham Forest and Fulham, but with Jesus now fit and firing again, his performances have dwindled.
Against Everton eight days ago he was hauled off just after the hour mark and probably shouldn't have been given much more time than that yesterday.
Whether he'd have played but for Leandro Trossard's training injury is an interesting trail of thought, as Jesus was moved to the left-hand side after his European exploits, with Nketiah leading the line again.
However, after a timid showing, it was Jesus who was taken off in the second half, with the academy graduate somehow lasting the whole 100 minutes that were played.
Perhaps the most frustrating moment of Nketiah's afternoon was in the first half. Destiny Udogie's backpass flew past Micky van de Ven which left the Arsenal number 14 with a tight chance to score from.
He ignored Fabio Vieira who was racing towards the penalty spot and instead stuck an effort straight at Guglielmo Vicaro in the Tottenham net.
The £100k-per-week earner is usually accustomed to doing the dirty work but was largely anonymous throughout, making a mere six passes in 100 minutes on the field, and also registering just 23 touches of the ball. For context, even the Gunners' stopper, David Raya, had more say with the ball at his feet, taking 42 touches in total.
Described as "average" by Man United personality Mark Goldbridge, this was certainly a game to forget for Nketiah who was decidedly toothless and inept in the final third.
Usually such a vibrant poacher, he lacked the instinct to be in the right place at the right time, with his small influence on the game summed up by Arsenal's apparent lack of desire to put the ball into the area throughout injury time.
To make matters worse, the 24-year-old was perhaps lucky not to be sent off for a late challenge on Vicario as he flew through the Spurs 'keeper when the ball had already gone.
It's not often in the last 12 months that you could say Arsenal need to sign a new striker. Jesus was so promising in the early stages of term but if they are to persist with Nketiah, trouble will only brew in the final third.
Whether or not Trossard and Martinelli are fit for this week's fixtures, Nketiah must be ditched from the starting XI. His position is surely now Jesus' for the taking.

E, segundo a assessoria de imprensa dainstituição de ensino, o clube possui44% de atletas dessa categoria oriundos de áreas de vulnerabilidade e de risco.
A ENS, por sua vez, assumirá os naming rights do time de nadadores, que passará a se chamar Equipe de Natação Flamengo ENS e conta com nomes como Luiz Altamir e Nathalia Almeida, que vão disputar o pré-Olímpico..
Além disso, se tornará patrocinadora oficial dos esportes olímpicos do clube e terá direito a diversas ações de marketing, como aplicação da marca nos uniformes de treino e de competição e mídia social.
– Como instituição de ensino, temos uma missão social a cumprir perante a sociedade. Essa parceria nasce com propósitos de sustentabilidade, responsabilidade social e fomento ao esporte olímpico nacional – disse o presidente da ENS, Robert Bittar.
– O Flamengo tem um nome de amplitude nacional. Portanto, com essa ação estamos contribuindo diretamente para a disseminação da cultura do seguro e para a formação e capacitação de atletas olímpicos, que são exemplos para uma sociedade forte e resiliente – falou Tarcísio Godoy, diretor geral da ENS.
Para o vice-presidente de Esportes Olímpicos do Flamengo, Delano Franco, a parceria com a ENS, chega em um momento oportuno, já que, em 2021, serão realizados os Jogos Olímpicos de Tóquio.
– A parceria com a ENS nos deixa muito felizes, pois nos permite aumentar nossos investimentos de forma sustentável, além de fortalecer ainda mais o apoio educacional a nossos atletas – afirmou Delano.
