O time paulista é o atual 12º colocado, com 37 pontos, sete acima do Z4 e sete atrás do G6.

Aston Villa could sign Eden Hazard

Aston Villa could well be plotting a move to bolster their wing options in the near future, with recent reports suggesting that Real Madrid maestro, Eden Hazard, is one of those currently linked with a sensational move back to England.

Despite having overseen a solid summer of recruitment, of which seven new faces entered Villa Park, one area that seems to be underperforming of late is out wide.

This may stem from months of training under Steven Gerrard, who struggled to decide if he wanted width or not from his team.

Leon Bailey, Philippe Coutinho and Emiliano Buendia have combined just three goals this campaign so far.

As per reports in Spain, the Villans have now identified that man Hazard as a potential solution to play the “leading role they need to reinforce the attack”.

The suggestion could be that the Belgium international, who is expected to star for his national team in the upcoming World Cup, could be Unai Emery’s answer to the Neymar deal that he conducted whilst at Paris Saint-Germain.

Signed for a world-record £200m fee, the Brazilian was the marquee signing intended to take the Parisian giants to the next level.

Hazard, were he to be signed, could have a similar impact at Villa, albeit just on the domestic stage for now.

Although many stated that the Brazilian was taking a step down, having gone on to record more goal contributions (185) than games (162), he will leave a lasting legacy in France.

Formerly of Chelsea, the 31-year-old certainly left his mark too, but arguably at a higher level in the Premier League.

In 352 appearances for the Cobham club, he scored 110 and assisted 92 on his way to winning the league’s player of the year award in 2015.

He was predicted to “light up” the division after this trophy, and would gladly oblige with a 16-goal haul the season following. Now, despite his powers having somewhat wilted in Spain, he could make good on that prediction one last time in Qatar as he captains his side.

The infamous Galacticos man signed for a reported £150m back in 2019, but has just two years left on his mega £521k-per-week contract.

It, therefore, could make a deal slightly more tenable, despite the apparent gulf between player and club.

The 5-foot-7 trickster has since been struck down with a ludicrous amount of injury issues following the move, having played just 72 times and managed 18 goal contributions.

This poised return to England could be exactly what he needs to get his career back on track, which should have reached unbelievable heights in the Spanish capital.

It is a move that would carry plenty of risks, but to get a player of his stature, who journalist Uche Amako believed was “genuinely world-class”, to a club like Villa, is surely a no-brainer for Emery.

Spurs: Paratici interested in Edwards

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Marcus Edwards back to north London in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Portuguese publication Record, who claim that Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte are keeping a very close eye on the situation of the Sporting Lisbon forward ahead of launching a potential move for the 23-year-old this winter.

And, in an interview with the Evening Standard back in October, the former Spurs academy starlet revealed that he would be open to a return to the Premier League in the future, something that could tempt Paratici into activating the winger’s reported £52m release clause in January.

However, with Daniel Levy forgoing the 50% sell-on fee he negotiated in the attacker’s move to Vitória de Guimarães when Edwards joined Sporting in a £9m move this summer, Spurs would only be required to pay the Liga Portugal side £26m in order to activate his release clause.

Paratici must move

Considering just how impressive Edwards has been for Sporting this season, particularly against Tottenham in the Champions League, it is easy to see why Paratici would be interested in a move to bring the 23-year-old back to north London this winter.

Indeed, over his 12 Liga Portugal appearances this season – only eight of which have come as starts – the £22m-rated talent has been in astonishing attacking form, scoring five goals, registering three assists and creating three big chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 1.5 shots, making 1.8 key passes and completing 2.0 dribbles per game.

These returns have seen the winger who Jeffry Fortes claimed is of a “bizarre level” average a simply sensational SofaScore match rating of 7.28, not only ranking him as Rúben Amorim’s third-best performer in the league but also as the joint 12th-best performer in the Portuguese top flight as a whole.

The £22k-per-week starlet also caught the eye over his six outings in the Champions League, bagging two goals – one of which was a spectacular solo strike against Spurs –  providing two assists and creating two big chances, as well as taking an average of 1.2 shots, making one key pass and completing 1.7 dribbles per match.

These returns saw the player who Jay Jaffa claimed made Eric Dier “look very stupid” in that aforementioned clash with his former employers, average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.02, ranking him as Sporting’s second-best player to feature in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

As such, considering how exciting a talent Edwards undoubtedly is, Paratici simply must amend Levy’s initial mistake of letting the 23-year-old go by sanctioning a swoop for the playmaker this winter – especially as Tottenham can essentially land the attacker in a half-price deal.

World Cup quiz: How well do you know Everton’s WC history?

The 2022 World Cup is just around the corner and there will be a number of Everton players in action in Qatar over the course of the next month.

Frank Lampard’s side head into the tournament in 17th place in the Premier League table following a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth last Saturday, leaving them just one point clear of the relegation zone.

The Merseyside club will have a few players from their senior squad heading to the Middle East to compete, so let’s put your knowledge of Everton and the Toffees’ World Cup history to the test with our interactive quiz below.

Good luck!

Leicester injury news: James Justin update

Leicester City defender James Justin is ‘set to miss’ the rest of the season with an Achilles injury, according to journalist John Percy.

The Lowdown: Justin injured in midweek

The full-back has enjoyed a successful opening to the 2022/23 campaign, starting all 14 of his side’s Premier League games so far, although he has now suffered a hugely unfortunate setback.

Brendan Rodgers named the 24-year-old in his team for the 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Newport County in midweek, but Justin was stretchered off partway through the match, and the news on his injury is not positive.

The Latest: Surgery required

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Percy confirmed that Justin would require surgery and likely won’t feature again before the end of the campaign as a result.

He tweeted: “Some bad news from Leicester – James Justin set to miss the remainder of the season with a ruptured Achilles. Operation tonight. Bitterly disappointing for JJ, who was in great form, and #lcfc.”

The Verdict: Blow for Rodgers

Last year, Justin sustained a serious knee injury and was out for 11 months before returning to action, so losing him for another significant length of time will be a huge blow for him and also for Rodgers.

The Luton native was averaging 2.6 clearances, 1.6 successful aerial duels and 1.4 tackles per league 90 minutes prior to his injury, along with having two goal contributions to his name (WhoScored).

Those figures see him ranked fourth for aerial duels won and third for clearances made among the Leicester squad (WhoScored).

The Foxes have gained a little bit of momentum of late, but it’s important that they enter the January transfer window looking for a replacement for the stricken 24-year-old if they want to maintain that heading into the second half of the season.

Everton must sign Mykhaylo Mudryk

Everton have found themselves in a similar situation as last season in the Premier League and are currently now just one point above the relegation zone heading into the World Cup break.

The Toffees have fallen into a poor run of form losing three of their last five league fixtures and Frank Lampard will be desperate to get his team into shape when they return to action after Christmas, as his job at the club has come into question over the last few weeks.

It was reported that the Everton hierarchy were looking at potential successors for the former Chelsea boss due to the poor performances on the pitch, however, it has most recently been claimed that the club are willing to back the manager for the foreseeable future after considering their options.

As a result, Lampard will be feeling the pressure to start putting in performances and picking up crucial points in the Premier League, something that could be achieved by acquiring some top-quality talent in the January transfer window.

One player who has been linked with a move to Goodison Park is Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk and there is no doubt the 21-year-old would offer a huge boost in the attacking threat in the team.

Only Wolverhampton Wanderers have scored fewer goals than the Toffees this season so finding players who can positively affect the amount of goal-scoring opportunities delivered and converted over the second half of the season.

Over 43 appearances for Donetsk so far, Mudryk – who was hailed a “serious talent” by Sascha Pisani – has scored 11 goals and delivered 17 assists, with a goal contribution every 83 minutes, which is an incredibly impressive output for the young winger and that consistency in front of goal would be a valuable asset at Everton.

In fact, the talented player ranks in the top 5% of his positional peers across Europe for non-penalty goals, assists, dribbles completed and touches, proving that he is a potential superstar in the making that could compete at the highest level with some of the biggest players in the world if he continues to flourish.

The £85.75m Ukrainian international has been attracting a lot of attention for his performances over the last 12 months and it is not only Everton interested in securing his signature with Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain also in the mix.

Mudryk’s expensive price tag has been defended by the club’s chief executive Sergei Palkin (via The Athletic):

“Mudryk is a talent in a process. What he is showing today, it’s just 60 per cent of what he can do in the future. And when you multiply this, you realize that he costs much, much more. Therefore, I we believe that in the future he can cost definitely around €100m.”

With that being said, if Moshiri does sanction a move for Mudryk it would certainly be proof of his ambition and intent to get Everton back where they belong in the top half of the table and could be the difference in saving Everton’s season.

Spurs must keep Nile John

Tottenham Hotspur could lose one of their prized assets in the near future.

According to reliable football.london reporter Alasdair Gold, young midfielder Nile John is attracting interest from Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion, as well as from abroad.

If the north Londoners aren’t careful, then they could have another Marcus Edwards situation on their hands.

The former Hotspur Way graduate left the club for a nominal fee back in September 2019 in a deal that has already stung the side as the English dynamo scored against Spurs in a recent Champions League clash between the two sides this season.

Edwards joined Portuguese giants Sporting CP from Vitoria just 18 months after leaving N17 and is worth around £52m, thanks to his release clause, according to Report (via The Sun).

Brighton are a great club for emerging young talent, so if they were to sign Nile, he’d undoubtedly become a future star, just like Edwards over in Portugal.

Gold has previously waxed lyrical over the 19-year-old gem, claiming that he has “great feet” and possesses “real quality.”

The London-born teenager is said to be skilful on the ball and have bundles of energy, so he could well be the attacking midfielder that Spurs have been longing for, for quite some time.

If Spurs were able to keep hold of him, then manager Antonio Conte could save chairman Daniel Levy millions in the transfer market, given the need for more attacking midfield options.

The club have been starved of talent in this role ever since the departure of Christian Eriksen in early 2020. The likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli have all departed the club already and neither of the Italian’s current options appear to be up to scratch for a no.10-like presence.

Therefore, Levy and co must do all they can to keep hold of John heading into 2023 and beyond.

AND in other news, Paratici could land Spurs’ next Kulusevski with January swoop for “fearless” £60m gem…

Celtic hold "discussions" over Afsha move

Scottish champions Celtic are seemingly eyeing a move for Al Ahly playmaker, Afsha, with manager Ange Postecoglou seemingly keen to continue his winter recruitment drive.

What’s the word?

According to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, the Parkhead outfit are believed to have engaged in talks with the 26-year-old’s representatives regarding a potential January deal, with the Hoops having already secured the signings of Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston ahead of the winter window.

The journalist revealed on Twitter: “Celtic have expressed an interest in Al-Ahly attacking midfielder Mohamed Magdy – more commonly known as Afsha. It’s understood the Hoops have held discussions with the Egypt international’s representatives, who are exploring his options.”

This follows a report from Football Scotland’s Mark Hendry who also revealed that there had been “contact” regarding a move for the Egyptian midfielder, with the player having also reportedly been a target for the Old Firm giants back in the summer of 2021.

‘Best player’

Turning to Afsha – whose full name is Mohamed Magdy – could well provide an extra creative element for Postecoglou’s side, with the 20-cap gem having showcased his talents amid his sparkling form in his homeland to date.

The 5 foot 6 dynamo – who is said to be valued at just over £4m – has scored 29 goals and 32 assists in 146 games in all competitions for his current side thus far, while his total club career tally stands at 98 goal contributions in 257 appearances across all fronts.

The diminutive maestro has started the new campaign impressively with two assists in his four league outings, having been particularly impressive last term with ten goals and five assists in 42 games for the Cairo outfit.

Such form even saw him lauded as the “best player in Egypt” back in January 2021 by former boss Ante Cacic, having notably ended the 2020/21 campaign with 25 goal involvements across all fronts.

A player for the big occasion, the Giza-born gem has also twice been named Man of the Match in the CAF Champions League final – in both 2020 and 2021 – having also previously clinched the competition’s goal of the season award in consecutive seasons, facts that only back up the aforementioned praise from Cacic.

Adding the fleet-footed magician into Postecoglou’s ranks would no doubt provide a further boost heading into the second half of the campaign, with the title-winning coach hoping to see a repeat of the impact of this year’s January arrivals, such as Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley – the two men having put in an “enormous shift” of late, according to their manager (BBC Scotland, 12/11/2022).

To have a further creative presence to add into the mix alongside that pair could well prove a truly exciting prospect as far as the Bhoys are concerned, with the rest of the Scottish Premiership no doubt concerned to see the rampant league leaders already strengthening so efficiently.

Rangers could ditch Roofe by signing Dykes

Rangers boss Michael Beale will seemingly be eyeing potential new recruits ahead of the January transfer window, with the 42-year-old likely looking to stamp his authority on the Ibrox outfit with a sprinkling of quality acquisitions.

The Englishman could seemingly be wise to reunite with Scotland international Lyndon Dykes by bringing the 6 foot 2 marksman to Glasgow, with journalist Pete O’Rourke having only recently suggested that such a move could well be a possibility.

“It’s one that does have obvious links. You’ve got Lyndon Dykes who has played under Michael Beale and scored goals in the Championship for Queens Park Rangers,” he said.

“Rangers possibly could be in the market for a new striker and especially if Alfredo Morelos was to leave the club as well so I’m sure Lyndon Dykes is somebody that would definitely be on the radar for Rangers if they do need to bring in a striker.”

The Australian-born striker worked under the Gers’ head coach at QPR in the early months of the current campaign, making a solid start to the season with six goals in 21 Championship games thus far.

The imposing forward – who also boasts a haul of eight goals in 26 caps at international level – has hit 27 goals in 101 games for the west London outfit to date since his £2m arrival back in the summer of 2020, having previously impressed in the Scottish Premiership prior to that.

The clinical brute scored 14 times and registered ten assists in just 36 appearances during his previous spell at Livingston, with such form reportedly attracting the attention of both the Light Blues and their Old Firm foes Celtic prior to his switch to England.

Pundit Alex McLeish notably revealed he was “surprised” that neither of the Glasgow rivals had managed to secure a deal at the time, with the pair having seemingly missed a trick on an asset who has been an “amazing find” for Scotland in recent years.

The former Queen of the South ace now boasts a club career tally of 64 goals to date, with it set to be no surprise if Beale is keen to reconnect in the New Year.

Such an addition could well hasten an exit for peripheral figure, Kemar Roofe, with the striker having been something of a forgotten man so far this season, having featured only twice in all competitions due to injury.

Such injury woes have been a theme of the Jamaican international’s time at the club so far since joining back in 2020, having most recently suffered another “frustrating” setback at the end of October, in the words of Ben Dinnery.

The £26k-per-week man – who was linked with a departure over the summer – has a solid goal record for the club with 34 goals in just 74 games, although his inability to enjoy a consistent run in the side is a real source of frustration for all parties.

As such, bringing Dykes into the fold could well prove an astute time to allow Roofe to seek pastures new, with the latter man having simply been an unreliable presence of late.

Liverpool’s Henderson is starring in Qatar

Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson has often divided opinion when it comes to his inclusion in the national side, but he has produced a resounding performance in the most crucial of moments to aid England in the hunt for that coveted trophy that has eluded the nation for so long.

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Henderson has stepped into the first-team reckoning after missing out on the starting fold in the opening fixture.

Quite simply, his presence in the middle of the park is of paramount importance to England’s endeavours, with his stability and selflessness providing a fortified platform for Jude Bellingham to maraud forward and find openings, while also giving the likes of Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden creative freedom on the wings.

Starting spot earned

As the tournament stretches into the latter stage, the need for composure and experience increases tenfold. Calm, assured heads with galvanising cries uttered across the pitch can be the difference between victory and defeat in the definitive moments.

As the games stretch on, and the ubiquitous figure needed to instigate the forward push, or maintain the ball under relentless pressure, is indeed often the focal point in such instances.

Henderson demonstrated his aptitude in such scenarios, aiding the Three Lions in clutching the match against Senegal and ensuring that the opening goal wouldn’t invite a barrage of pressure from the African opposition.

As per Sofascore, the £140k-per-week Liverpool captain recorded a rating of 7.7 during the round-of-16 outing, scoring the opening goal and continuing to provide the experienced display required to sail to victory.

His successful strike was complemented by an 89% pass accuracy and a 100% duel success rate; his two tackles and one blocked shot completed a robust and complete performance, an embodiment of the role needed from the modern industrious midfielder.

Across the tournament, Henderson, lauded a “terrific leader” by Liverpool teammate Virgil Van Dijk, has completed 86% of his passes and won 77% of his total duels, and his pragmatic approach to his play will be vital among the flair-heavy forward-line England also boasts.

Indeed, against France, in the tantalising quarter-final tie, the 32-year-old “conductor” will need to be on a similar vein of form, should he earn another starting role, and provide a doggedly tenacious display against the reigning world champions, but his blend of experience, melded with the vibrancy of Declan Rice beside him and the genius of Bellingham, could produce scintillating results for the nation.

For a player that has won nearly everything there is to win at club level, captaining such a side to success, was it ever really in question that he could provide the presence required to breed success, as he consistently throughout his time as skipper for the club.
